Dive Connection: The Lighthouse Atoll
Further beyond the Turneffe Atoll lies the most famous of the atolls of Belize. Lighthouse Atoll is the home of the Great Blue Hole and Halfmoon Caye. The variety of diving is such that all of the live on board dive boats that operate in Belize spend the majority of their itineraries diving at Lighthouse.
Known for its sheer walls and drop offs Lighthouse will generally offer better visibility than Turneffe because it has fewer islands that make up the atoll. The wall around the northwest side of Long Caye will start in 35 to 40 feet of water and drop down almost sheer to a slight bump, that is beyond the limits of sport diving, and then it plunges again into the depths.
